HERITAGE ALERT: BRANSON SCHOOLS DISCRIMINATING AGAINST SOUTHERN HERITAGE

Disturbing news from Branson , Missouri:

According to KSPR channel 33 in Springfield, Mo:

“BRANSON, Mo. — Preston Baughman is known as a champion of Southern heritage.  The Branson native wore shirts with the confederate flag almost daily, just like  his dad.

“Preston wore the confederate flag just about every day. It was
rare you seen him without it on,” said Mike Baughman, Preston’s father.
“Graduation night, out of 300 and some kids that graduated with him, he was the
only one the entire class stood up and saluted when he went across the stage that night. And he was wearing the flag under his robe.”

After graduating from Branson High School, Preston Baughman died in a crash. His family put up three crosses and draped his favorite flag over them. Shirts were also made with his favorite symbol, the confederate flag.

“His shirt has a rebel flag in the front and a big one on the back,” said brother Austin  Baughman. “And that’s the one I got kicked out of school for last Friday.”

Particularly disturbing is how the writers of this article state that almost 100 people left negative comments about this young man on their facebook page. It is almost as if they are bragging and trying to inject their own opinion of the issue into the story itself to sway reader sentiment.

Missouri says No to Jawhawker Plates

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.     (AP) — Legislation aimed at stopping Missouri from issuing a specialty license plate featuring the University of Kansas is on its way to Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon.

Lawmakers attached the measure to a higher education bill approved Wednesday in the Senate. The amendment says only Missouri schools may be featured on license plates unless the Legislature votes otherwise.

Fans of the University of Kansas and its Jayhawk mascot launched an effort last year to get the plate.

The amendment’s sponsor, Democrat Rep. Stephen Webber, has said he’ll seek to repeal it if the University of Kansas challenges the University of Missouri to a football or basketball game next school year.

The measure won’t affect Missouri’s recent approval of a plate featuring a different Kansas institution – Pittsburg State.

I truly believe that if the citizens of Osceola, Missouri had not passed a resolution calling for the University of Kansas to drop its “Jayhawk” mascot there is a very good chance that this plate would have been approved.  However; by passing the resolution the City of Osceola, Missouri brought the true history behind the “Jayhawk” mascot into the national spotlight.

On September 22, 2011  the Across our Confederation blog published the following story:

On September 15th, 2011 the Columbia Daily-Tribunepublished an article that gained national attention in the news media. Who would have thought that the national spotlight would be on a small southwest Missouri town. But that is exactly what happened to Osceola, Missouri when the Tribune reported about a resolution passed by the Osceola Missouri City Council calling on the University of Kansas to drop the “Jayhawk” as its mascot. According to Rudy Keller (the Tribune reporter that broke the story):

“Osceola, a community of about 950 people in St. Clair County, has a message for the University of Kansas: It is time to consider dropping the mascot name “Jayhawk” and ending the school’s association with “a group of domestic terrorists.” “In a resolution the Osceola Board of Aldermen passed Tuesday — on the eve of the 150th anniversary of a Civil War raid by Kansans that destroyed the town — the city condemned “the celebration of this murderous gang of terrorists by an institution of ‘higher education’ in such a brazen and malicious manner.”

I believe the  Colonel John T. Coffee Camp #1934, Sons of Confederate Veterans has played an important role as well.  Every  April, the Coffee Camp holds its annual heritage dinner that draws more paying visitors than most Democratic or Republican events of the area.  Every year we put out a press release, detailing national speakers and the number of people who attended.  This doesn not go unnoticed by the powers that be in Jeff City. It’s simple numbers= influence in Jeff City and it is apparent to this writer that Jeff City has taken note of  the resolution the City of Osceola passed last September and the numbers from the annual Coffee Camp heritage dinner held in Osceola every April-Webmaster.

 

Kennedy Speaks at Heritage Dinner

Best selling author Donnie Kennedy (The South was Right) was the keynote speaker at the 2012 Colonel John T. Coffee Camp , Sons of Confederate Veterans Heritage Hnner, held on April 21, 2012, in the historic community of Osceola, Missouri.

Mr. Kennedy spoke to a crowd of 120 paid attendees who frequently interrupted him with applause and standing ovations.

Prior to the dinner a crowd of 50 opted to enjoy the Heritage Tour which took visitors throughout the Osceola, Missour area which included the site of the 1874 gun battle between members of the Younger Gang and Pinkerton agents, as well as the Missouri Brigade Monument which overlooks the juncture of the Sac and Osage Rivers, the Monument to the Citizens of Osceola who died during Jim Lane’s September , 1861 raid on the once prosperous city,  and the Cole Younger Cave.-webmaster

Mark Vogel has written an article over at the Noland Chart {.com} about how the Confederate Constitution holds the answers to many of today’s modern problems.

When first formed, the united States operated under the Articles of Confederation through the Revolutionary War.   After the war, the independent nation – states (as recognized by Great Britain’s individual treaty with each state) realized changes had to be made to enhance commerce and protection from foreign military adventurism against the infant confederacy.  But, when the delegates sent to the convention found it impossible to work with the Articles of Confederation they advised their separate states, and asked to be allowed to draft a new Constitution.  The result of their work was the Constitution.  However, all states, big and small, north and South retained their right as an independent nation-state to leave the union.  Some states like New York, actually articulated this right in the resolution passed by their legislature to rejoin the union under the second constitution! Don and Ron Kennedy co-authors of THE SOUTH WAS RIGHT state clearly in their work; if you cannot leave, you are not free.

In 1860, as a result of conflicting views of national purpose, identity and direction seven Southern states exercised their right to secede, ( a right recognized in classes taught at West Point at the time), and met in Montgomery, Alabama to form another American nation.  Later they would be joined by six more states and two territories.   The founders of the Confederacy took great pains to make specific changes/modifications to the Constitution they had left to ensure that their fears concerning the path the U.S. was taking could be changed.  The South would take a very different direction.  And despite the present day historical spin of political correctness, a careful reading of the Confederate Consitution  and comparison to the U.S. Constitution will clearly illuminate the concerns of the South, and surprisingly demonstrate that the men who met in Montgomery in 1860 foretold the problems America faces today!

Across Our Confederation

Historian Kevin Levin has made into the very distinguished ‘The Atlantic’ magazine. The subject? Black Confederates of course. Or should I say the denigration of African-Americans contributions to the Confederacy?

His latest contribution, entitled “What Black ‘Confederates’ Really Did during the War”

The mere title is condescending. Levin writes: “More representative of the experience of “Confederate slaves” were those impressed by individual states and the Confederate government for various war-related projects such as the building of fortifications and roads.  In fact, as the number of body servants dropped, the number of impressed slaves continued to rise as a result of legislation on the state and federal levels.  Yet, the SCV/UDC have little to say about these men.Of course, it is not difficult to surmise as to why.  The first problem is that most people are not even aware that tens of thousands of slaves were impressed during the war. …

Pacific, Mo Honors Civil War Battle

A Franklin County town is among the first in eastern Missouri to recognize its Civil War heritage.

A three-hour skirmish in Pacific in 1864 was the closest the Civil War came to St. Louis.

The recognition is part of a larger effort to market Missouri during the Civil War’s 150th anniversary.
